Kenya is Rich in Culture with 42 tribes this shows the variety intoxicate yourself with our african rythms - we say “Karibuni Nyumbani - Welcome home” for this is our tradition, from the masai, mijikenda, agikuyu, kalenjin, luo, lughya among others. In Nairobi a place where you can find various traditional dances from various cultures is the BOMAS OF KENYA.
Bomas of Kenya was founded in 1971 and opened to the general public in 1972. Since then it has continued to act as the national reservoir of our traditional Kenya culture.It was etablished as a subsidiary of the KTDC act as a one stop centre for tourists to sample and enjoy the diverse cultures of the Kenyan people. It is for this reason that it was placed next to the Nairobi National Park.
A Boma is a homestead and just a few kilometres from the city, numerous homesteads reflecting Kenya’s cocktail of cultures have been faithfully recreated for visitors to see traditional village life. But the greatest excitement during the afternoon is a visit to the display of traditional dancing music and folklore songs performed in splendid arena. Masai village; set up camp in one big Masai manyatta. Lunch is prepared over open wood fire, exploring the villages on feet, and visit Narok a small masai town.This is also done at the Coast; Lamu where you will experience the Swahili Culture and Traditional dishes.
